I Would Describe Myself As

I’m a retired teacher (of science & then socials) who still substitute-teaches frequently... and I just bought 5 acres of land with a beautiful view outside of a relatively small southern Oregon town, with a relatively big and active tennis club. :)

Besides loving tennis (4.0 level), I also like other active pursuits (mountains, rivers, oceans), and stay in good shape. I grew up hopelessly religious (a missionary kid in India), and so dancing was strictly forbidden. But… I’ve told myself for a number of years now that I’d love to learn to dance (even if I’m kinda rhythm-challenged).

I read a fair bit, more to broaden and deepen my understanding of life, society, and the universe, than for pleasure. I’ve also written with the intention, not of entertainment, but of hoping to help us constructively step up to the challenges of our times, to increase the odds of us leaving a decent, stable, and hopefully enjoyable planet (ecologically and socially) to future generations.

I have three grown children (electrician, teacher, & nurse) with whom I’m fortunate to have really good relationships. Two are in Oregon; one is in S. Cal. I’ve been divorced for about 10 years now.

I’ve lived and worked in a number of countries, and have come to have a rather global, not nationalistic, perspective. Yes, I’m a progressive.

A good dog has nearly always been part of my life, and I’ve been lucky to have a couple horses too.

I don’t smoke, and only drink very moderately. I’ve enjoyed a couple good shroom trips with one of my kids.
